Many people find acupuncture an effective treatment for a wide range of medical conditions, health complaints, illnesses and injuries. Others choose acupuncture as a preventive measure to strengthen their constitution or because they just feel generally unwell with an absence of diagnosis.

Acupuncture aims to address the root cause of a condition and not just the symptoms alone; this approach can lead to a more permanent resolution of problems. It can be safely and effectively be used alongside conventional medicine.

Some commonly treated conditions include:-

  • Headaches / migraine
  • Back pain, sciatica, frozen shoulder, muscle pains
  • Arthritis, joint problems
  • Asthma, sinusitis, hayfever
  • IBS, acid reflux, nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, hiatus hernia
  • Cystitis, UTIs
  • Menstrual or menopausal problems, fertility
  • Pregnancy and post-natal health
  • Stress
  • Anxiety, panic attacks, depression, PTSD, low mood
  • Tiredness, chronic fatigue / ME, poor concentration
  • Insomnia
  • Low immunity
  • High blood pressure, circulatory problems
  • Vertigo

How does it work?

Chinese Medical philosophy works on the principle that our body functions as a whole complete system in which all the organs, tissues, muscular and skeletal structures, substances like blood, hormones and body fluids, mental states and emotions work together synergistically to create health and a feeling of wellness. The focus of the acupuncturist is to address the root cause of ill health, along with treatment for specific symptoms, and to improve the patient’s overall well-being.

Ultra-fine, sterile, single-use needles are carefully inserted into specific points on the body which have the effect of stimulating the body’s natural self-healing mechanisms by way of meridians or channels that interconnect to organs, tissues and substances deep within the body.

While much research has attempted to understand exactly how this happens, how it works remains elusive from an orthodox perspective. At the same time, there is a growing amount of lab-based biomedical published research that supports its effectiveness. What is evident in practice is that Chinese Medicine is a dynamic medicine capable of restoring health and creating beneficial change.
